Why I Wanted to Buy A House In Arlington: Scrivena’s Story

Don’t you love a great story?

We sure do.

Stories we enjoy often involve some aspect of Arlington.

That’s why we started Arlington Texas Today over three years ago.

And wouldn’t you know it, people find our Arlington story a darn good one.

Been reading our site for a while? If so, you know we love living in Arlington.

The city is a great place to live and buy a home. Several studies show Arlington is a wonderful city for home ownership.

That’s information people seek when thinking about purchasing a new home.  Recent homeowners can also share their experiences and journey to help others who are deciding where to live.

We thought it would be helpful to share stories of new Arlington residents. All journeys to Arlington and homeownership are unique. We feel this will be a great way to showcase the process and emotions that come with moving to and buying a house in Arlington.

Today’s featured new Arlington resident and first-time homebuyer is Scrivena J. She agreed to share her thoughts and experience of moving to Arlington with us.

The following questions and answers are excerpts from our interview with Scrivena.

ATT: Tell us about yourself.
SJ: I am a 36-year-old Supervisory Transportation Security Officer. I have four children: One daughter (age 19) and three sons (ages, 18, 15 and 10).

ATT: Where did you move from and why did you move to Arlington?
SJ: I relocated from East St. Louis, Illinois. The reason I chose Arlington was pure divine intervention. I had two weeks to find a home, and I prayed for a safe environment.

ATT: Why did you decide to move to Arlington vs other DFW cities?
SJ: I actually chose Arlington with the help of another agent. I expressed my need for a safe neighborhoodgood school district, and space. I was informed that Arlington was one of the better areas in the DFW area.

ATT: Why did you want to buy your first home?
SJ: The main reason I chose to become a homeowner was for my children. I wanted my children to understand that being a single parent does not prohibit you from accomplishing your dreams.

ATT: What amenities were you looking for in a home?
SJ: The main amenity was safety, and then schools and plenty of space.

ATT: Why were those amenities most important?
SJ: The main reason is because I grew up in an environment that was pretty rough. I wanted my children to have a neighborhood were they could ride bikes, walk the dog, and feel secure. The schooling system was also a great concern because although the real learning starts at home, the teacher continues the process.

ATT: How did you meet and decide to work with Keela as your Realtor?
SJ: I actually decided to work with Keela after reading Arlington Texas Today. It was something about the smile she had in her photo. It was infectious. I decided I had procrastinated long enough. Through the website, I gained so much knowledge of all the free and educational events in the Arlington area. At that point, I felt what better person to help me accomplish my dream.

ATT: What was your experience like working Keela as your Realtor?
SJ: Keela was a true angel in disguise. She was so patient and concerned about my needs. She was the perfect Realtor. She walked me through the entire process, and never once seemed to mind that I was indecisive. Keela is a very resourceful Realtor, and she stood by me until the day I closed on my home. Her main goal seemed to be making sure that I didn’t feel as though I was settling. She encouraged me to take my time and respected my budget. She knew exactly when to step back and give me space, but still reach out enough for me to know she was near. With her expertise and my praying skills, I found the perfect home with a bonus. I would highly recommend her to any of my friends.

ATT: What’s the #1 piece of advice you would give someone thinking about purchasing a home in Arlington?
SJ: The advice I have for anyone, would be CALL KEELA McGraw. I feel Arlington has a lot to offer, but be prepared financially, mentally, and spiritually. The home buying process is a real journey. However, with the right Realtor, it can be smooth. Honestly, I feel that if anyone knows how to maneuver their way around Arlington it is Keela. She knows everything, but don’t take my word for it, read Arlington Texas Today.
