Twitter…

It’s more than mere updates on what people you don’t care about had for dinner. Or celebrities spamming us with stuff they want us to do/watch/buy.

It’s a great way to stay updated on what’s happening in Arlington.

As someone who has used Twitter since 2009, I know the key is only following accounts that provide you value.

And if getting updates on all-things-Arlington is valuable to you, here are six Arlington-centric Twitter accounts we highly recommend you follow:

1. Globe Life Park (@RangersInfo)

We know many of you are diehard Texas Rangers fans. That’a why we shared information on how to get discount Rangers tickets and gameday shuttle options. If you plan to attend a home game, be sure to check out Globe Life Park’s twitter account. The Globe Life Park team provides updates on parking, traffic, valet, gate openings, weather & events. Checking out the Twitter account is a great way to make your Rangers experience a great one.

2. Monica Nagy (@MonicaNagyFWST)

There’s been a lot of talk lately about Arlington ISD. For information on all things AISD, including bond updates, Monica Nagy is a great Twitter follow. Monica covers news on Arlington ISD for the Star-Telegram/Arlington Citizen-Journal.

3. Susan Schrock (@SusanSchrock)

Susan Schrock is the Arlington reporter for the Star-Telegram/Arlington Citizen-Journal. She regulary tweets updates on the latest news around town in additional to real-time updates from city council meetings.

4. Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau (@crowdgoeswild)

Formally Experience Arlington, the newly-renamed Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Twitter account is just as much for Arlington residents as it is for out-of-towners. Refreshed with a new name and logo, it still exists to provide an insider’s guide to what’s happening around town.

5. Downtown Arlington (@DTArlington)

There’s a heck of a lot of talk about the future of downtown Arlington. The Downtown Arlington Management Corporation’s Twitter account helps you stay informed and get info on events, businesses and activities in our city’s center.

6. Arlington Police (@ArlingtonPD)

Arlington’s Police Department has been nationally-recognized for their innovative use of social media. The department uses Twitter to share news, public safety information, traffic alerts and local event information. In addition, they created the widely-adopted “tweetalongs.” Tweetalongs give Twitter followers an opportunity to receive information about what an officer experiences on a patrol shift in real time through photos and text updates. And don’t miss the really cool Throwback Thursday pics they share each week.
