We sure have some pretty amazing people who call Arlington home.
Since we began Arlington Texas Today in May, we always knew we wanted to pick the brains of locals to see why they hang their hat here. Sure, each day we can tell you how awesome Arlington is. But it’s a bit different when some of our own share their thoughts about our city.
To kick off the inaugural edition of “What I Love About Arlington”, we sat down with Karen Borta, Arlington native, resident, and CBS 11 news journalist. Karen is a graduate of Lamar High School and University of Texas at Arlington. She gave us the skinny on what she loves about Arlington and why. Enjoy!
What are a few of your favorite restaurants in town?
There are so many, I can’t list them all without risking omitting one. But I will say that when my husband and I eat out, we are rarely inclined to leave Arlington. We’re big into sushi, Mexican food, and Italian (among others.) We’re fortunate to have a lot of incredible restaurants that appeal to a wide variety of tastes.
What are some of your favorite places to shop in Arlington?
I live in south Arlington, so the Highlands and the Parks are both very convenient for me, but I also love The Brownstone for gifts for friends — and gifts for myself!
What’s your favorite place in Arlington to see a live concert?
The Levitt Pavilion, hands down.
If someone is new to Arlington, what are a few must-see destinations in town?
The obvious destinations come to mind: Rangers Ballpark, AT&T Stadium, and Six Flags. But also any event at College Park – it’s an incredible facility, and the upgrades made to UTA and downtown are wonderful. There’s so much to do in that area—it would be high on my list of recommendations.
What is your favorite part about living in Arlington?
As much as it’s grown and changed over the years, it still has the comfort of “home”. We love our neighbors. We love our church and our children’s schools. I take a lot of pride in being from Arlington, and can’t imagine another place that feels more like home.
What is it about Arlington that has kept you here?
For all of the reasons I just mentioned. Arlington is home.
