There’s not an Arlington real estate project that’s being talked about more than Viridian. Located in North Arlington on N. Collins Street near NE Green Oaks Blvd, Viridian is a masterplan community that sits on a 2,300 acre nature preserve with wildlife, a dinosaur excavation, a lake and so much more. Depending on your lifestyle, Viridian homes for sale may be something you want to start searching for with the help of an Arlington real estate agent.

History: Historically, developers thought this area was too complicated to work with to create a residential community. The community developer, Huffines Communities, purchased the land in 2006. Developer Sam Ware bought the property in 2004 (he sold to Huffines) and planned a project called Lakes of Bird’s Fort, which never got off the ground. Also, a peace treaty was signed on the land in 1843.

Housing: Whether your budget is low $200s or a million (higher priced homes will be lake property), you can find Viridian homes for sale to fit your taste (and pocketbook). Buyers can choose from several homebuilders. Sustainability and green building practices are a big emphasis as each Viridian home is created with eco-responsible building practices. That mirrors the theme of living in Viridian as public landscaping, parks and open spaces in the community are irrigated using ground and lake waters.

Once Viridian is completely built-out in around 15 years, it will be home to over 3,000 homes, office and medical space, shops and restaurants.

Lincoln Square near Viridian ArlingtonRestaurants & Shopping: Living in Viridian means you’re close to just about everything. Heading south on N. Collins St. about three miles will lead you to Lincoln Square where several options for shopping and dining reside. There you can grab that flat-panel tv from Best Buy, select linens and home knick-knacks from Bed, Bath & Beyond and finish it all off with a bite to eat from various restaurants and bars.

In addition to all this goodness, there is also Whole Foods and Tom Thumb grocery stores, banks and a wide range of other businesses in close proximity to Viridian. And if all that isn’t enough for you, Arlington’s Entertainment District and Arlington Highlands are nearby.

Family & Fitness: Big draws to Viridian include the paved trails that weave through the community designed for hiking, running, walking or biking. The 120 acre lake that greets you as you drive into the community is a welcome addition for water lovers (two more lakes are planned to be added). And if you’re looking to for more, fear not. Just across N. Collins St is River Legacy Parks, which invites you to navigate nature. Elzie Odom Athletic Center is just around the corner on NE Green Oaks for your family’s recreational needs.

Neighborhood Schools: Meadow Creek Elementary, Harwood Junior High and Trinity High (HEB Independent School District).

Quirks: Also, this might be one of the only communities in Arlington to have two Facebook pages (one for the community, one for the homeowner’s association). If you live here, be sure to like them. Adding to the neighborhood feeling of Viridian is the fact that they have their own Lifestyle Director that plans activities for residents in and around the community.

Along with close proximity to River Legacy Parks, it’s also down the road from the City of Arlington landfill. It hasn’t seemed to deter many homebuyers as the first phase of homes completely sold out. Phase two is being developed with more than 200 homes, townhomes and condos. Also, an HEB ISD elementary school will be built within the community.

Major Streets Nearby: N. Collins Street, NE Green Oaks Blvd., Highway 360, I-30, Lamar Blvd.

Viridian has the feeling of a special place to live and grow. With it’s close proximity to just about anything you’d want to do in Arlington, Viridian is a hot ticket that will attract more and more buyers as each development phase is completed. From the looks of things, you can still find a good deal on a house here. But that won’t be the case for long, so get yourself to Viridian before everyone else beats you to it (and home prices go up).
