So we’ve been saying it since we launched in 2013…
Arlington is an awesome place to live.
In fact, we’ve shared plenty of convincing reasons why. Whether it’s young people, young families, first-time homebuyers or even freelance workers, Arlington is the best city to call home.
But what about if someone wants to move to an extremely affordable city that won’t put a dent in their wallet? Arlington has that covered too.
According to a recent study by GoBankingRates.com, Arlington is the ninth best city to live and save money in the country.
GoBankingRates.com analyzed the 100 largest U.S. cities by population and based their study on the following six factors:
- Sales tax
- Median home and condo value
- Median monthly rent
- Median income
- Unemployment rates
- Gas prices
Portland (OR) topped the list with Anchorage (AK), Lincoln (NE), Boise (ID) and Madison (WI) rounding out the top five. In a funny coincidence, my hometown, Fort Wayne, IN ranked eighth. The only other city in Texas to make the top 10 is Corpus Christi (#10).
Here’s a chart with the complete rankings:

Arlington ranked #7 in the 2014 edition of this study.
It’s great to see Arlington rank high on the list because we all know about the fun things to do, great places to eat, live and shop in town. This recognition gives us another reason to share our love for our wonderful city.
If you know someone thinking about making a move soon, share this article with them. It just might surprise them.
