Got a quick question for ya…

Know someone thinking about moving to Arlington?

If they are 35 or younger and wondering if Arlington is a good place for them to call home, here’s some cool news.

Arlington is the second best city in the country for people 35 and under, according to a recent livability study by Vocativ.com.

The study looked at the top 100 populated cities and listed the top 35. Vocativ analyzed open source data based upon the following eight factors:

  1. Demographics – Median age and Ethnic diversity (U.S. Census); Percent of singles, 18-35, and percent of LGBT individuals (Facebook)
  2. Housing – Monthly rent, 2BR apartment (Myapartmentmap.com); cleaning service (Homeadvisor.com); and Internet costs (Numbeo.com)
  3. Jobs – Median salary (U.S. Census); Unemployment and job growth rates (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  4. Food – Cost of groceries – chicken breasts, milk, eggs and tomatoes (Numbeo.com; Expatistan.com); Coffee shops and take-out restaurants, per 100K people (Yelp)
  5. Entertainment – Cost of a movie ticket (AMC); Number of music festivals (Ticketmaster), and arenas/stadiums with pro sports teams (StadiumsandArenaVisits.com; NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB)
  6. Night Out – Cost of a beer (Numbeo.com), 1 ounce of weed (PriceofWeed.com), and dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings (BuffaloWildWings.com).
  7. Getting Around – Percent of population using public transit (U.S. Census); cost of a 5-mile taxi cab fare (Taxifarefinder.com); and cost per gallon of gas (GasBuddy.com)
  8. Appeal – Percentage of sunny days per year (CurrentResults.com); walkability (Walkscore.com); and number of violent crimes per 100K people (FBI Crime database).

I did a double take when I read the Night Out criteria, too! 🙂

New York City topped the list with San Francisco, Denver and Austin rounding out the top five. In addition to Arlington and Austin, several other Texas cities made the top 35: Fort Worth (#12), Dallas (#14), Lubbock (#15), Irving (#21), Plano (#23), and Garland (#35).

Be sure to share this news with the 35 and under crowd. We know Arlington has plenty of fun things to do, great places to eat, live and shop. But this news may surprise them.
