Arlington Is The Best Big City in The South [2016 Study]

As a resident, I’m sure you know how amazing Arlington is.

Since moving to Arlington over 10 years ago, I am constantly finding more things to love. Maybe that’s why you plan to live here for a long time (as do I).

Being a REALTOR®, I receive several calls and emails from people looking to buy a home in our city. Some live in DFW while others are truly relocating. Popular responses I receive when asking why they want to live in Arlington typically include how our city appears to be affordable with something for everyone to do.

I agree. Regardless of your age, family status or lifestyle interests, Arlington is a great place to live.

Don’t just take my opinion as a REALTOR® or resident. A popular magazine/website agrees!

Arlington was recently recognized as one of the six best big cities in the country, according to Fortune magazine.

Fortune analyzed the most populated cities in America based on the following factors:

  • Population (300,000 and above)
  • Strong job growth
  • Affordable housing
  • Good schools
  • Low crime
  • Quality-of-life

Here’s a snippet of what Fortune said about Arlington:

The median home price in Arlington is just shy of $169,000, vs. around $240,000 for the national metro-area median, and its home price appreciation—up 10% in the past year—is among the strongest in the country.

As Arlington’s population has more than doubled since 1980, the city has made an effort to contain sprawl, investing in transportation alternatives like bike lanes and exploring a high-speed rail line linking Arlington to Dallas and Fort Worth. The downtown has also been getting a makeover: Here residents can enjoy some of the old, such as the circa-1949 Arlington Music Hall, alongside the new, like the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, an outdoor venue that plays host to more than 50 free outdoor concerts a year.

It also mentions Viridian as a neighborhood people are flocking to as well as the University of Texas at Arlington’s recent growth.

Along with Arlington being the Best City in the South, here are the five other cities on the list in different regions:

  1. Boston, MA (Northeast)
  2. Raleigh, NC (Southeast)
  3. Columbus, OH (Midwest)
  4. Colorado Springs, CO (Mountains)
  5. Portland, OR (West)

It’s great to see that Arlington ranked as one of the six best big cities in the country. If you know of anyone interested in moving to our awesome city, I’d love to help. Click here to contact me anytime!
