Need information about charter schools in Arlington TX?
Maybe you are relocating to Arlington and looking for a new school for your child. Or a current resident seeking information to compare to public and private schools in Arlington.
Whichever is the case, now is the time to get started. Why? Space is often limited. Charter schools conduct lotteries for the school year. With limited spots, this determines which children get accepted. The schools also require annual registrations.
We understand how important education is in our community. That’s why share information about various schools including their performance ratings.
Before we look at each charter school in Arlington TX, let’s begin with a brief overview of what a charter school is.
A charter school is a public school of choice that operates under the terms of a charter, or contract, with an authorizer, such as the state and local boards of education. Charter schools receive flexibility from certain state and local rules. This flexibility is in exchange for a higher degree of accountability for raising student achievement. Charter schools are held accountable by their authorizer(s) for upholding the terms of their charter.
Charter schools also:
- receive public funding
- cannot charge tuition
- must have fair and open enrollment
- must be secular
- are required to serve all student populations, including students with disabilities and English language learners.
The main difference between charter schools from traditional public schools centers around autonomy and flexibility. Charter schools are governed by an autonomous not-for-profit board of directors. Traditional schools are governed by a local board of education.
Charter schools receive flexibility from certain state and local rules and regulations in exchange for a higher level of accountability. Typically, charter schools use this flexibility to implement innovative or unique programs. The goal is to provide educational options to parents and students that may not be available in traditional public schools.
Now that we’ve talked about what charter schools are, here is a snapshot of the charter schools in Arlington TX.
