Wimbledon is a South Arlington neighborhood located between South Cooper and Bowen Road just south of I-20. Wimbledon is one of the most desirable (and affordable) neighborhoods for families with children, mainly because of the great schools and the easy access to just about anything and anywhere.

History: Like Forest Hills, Wimbledon is an older neighborhood filled with mature trees providing plenty of refreshing shade in the hot summer months. Houses were built the mid-70s to early 80s.With many original homeowners continuing to reside here along with younger couples moving here to raise their families, it’s a great mix of people in the area.

Housing: The Wimbledon neighborhood contains around 800 homes. Whether you’re looking for a single story to save on heating and a/c costs or a two-story for a bit more room, you can find plenty of each in Wimbledon. With quiet streets and large yards, there is a very strong kid and dog-friendly vibe. Houses go for anywhere from the low-$200′s up to around $600,000.

Restaurants & Shopping: The Village at Sports Center shopping plaza is located right at the corner of South Cooper and Wimbledon Drive. With its large variety of places to eat, your restaurants bases are covered. For pizza, there’s Double Dave’s. Burgers are a plenty at Smashburger. The beer flows freely at World of Beer. Nothing Bundt Cakes can satisfy your sweet needs. For pho lovers, Pho 95 has a piping hot bowl with your name on it. Throw in Skyline Nails & Spa, Sport Clips and Cancun Sun for your lifestyle needs and you really might not ever need to leave the Wimbledon area. You’re also mere minutes away from Parks at Arlington Mall and Arlington Highlands.

Family & Fitness: A major highlight of the neighborhood is Wimbledon Park, created in the mid 80s on Wimbledon Drive. Here, you’ll discover a mile long fitness course that includes three fitness areas. There is a 1.1 mile trail with plenty of curves and hills for runners. Plus there’s multipurpose practice fields and a new playground for kids ages 2-12 was added in 2012.

Schools: Wood Elementary, Boles Junior High, Martin High (Arlington Independent School District). Arlington Classics Academy’s Bowen campus (charter school) is located directly across Bowen Road at the Wimbledon neighborhood entrance. International Leadership of Texas is also down the road.

Quirks: The Wimbledon Garden Club, the primary neighborhood association was formed in 1980. A great profile about them and their efforts is available on the City of Arlington website.

Major street boundaries: South Cooper, I-20, Green Oaks, Bowen

The mature trees, Wimbledon park, friendly neighbors and quiet streets make Wimbledon an especially sought-after neighborhood in Arlington. Once you’ve driven through the area a couple of times, it’s easy to see why calling Wimbledon home is really all that people say it is.
